Maitland High School, established 1883, is a comprehensive high school that caters for students from diverse backgrounds and a rural drawing area. It successfully marries traditions from over 100 years as one of the original group of NSW Boys' High Schools, with skills to meet the needs of tomorrow. The school community strives to ensure students live by its motto "En Avant" ("Go forward"). This is evidenced by: The school's recognition, 1996 to 1998, with three successive Director-General Awards for programs of excellence in literacy, student welfare and environmental education; the presentation in 1999 to Mrs J.
